A typical fall day …

Gusty, rain and cool. However, It’s still fairly mild for this time of year __ AND NO SNOW!

Well, that’s not exactly true. Armstrong Station (James Bay area, accumulated 6″ the other day.

The countdown is on. Just a few weeks before I wing south. I can’t believe the incredible deal I received from the hotel in Georgia. Thirty-six dollars a night — which is $30 less than I was paying last year!

I`m feeling proud of myself these days. I am taking short strolls (inside the house) on my canes. I`ve had then since I first broke my hip, but it is just lately that I have felt confident enough to use them. It comes from walking without my walker, up and down the fenceline this summer.

Do you like fruit? Now that fall is here with the bounty of the harvest, I`ve taken eating fruit two meals a day. It is soooo good and fresh. Pears are my favourite, followed by grapes, apples and bananas. The pears leave such a clean taste in your mouth, and there is no leftovers except a small core.

I do hope there’s a fruit and vegetable stand nearby when I go south.

More next time.

PS. I put the first items in the carry-all today. 🙂

Nice day, but cool.

Once again the weather has proven that it’s never what you expect. The weather forecasters have been talking about a ‘hot and humid’ day for today. Well, with a gusty S/E wind it’s neither ‘hot’ nor ‘humid.’ However, I’m in the gazebo anyway (perhaps for the last time this year) — with a jacket on to be sure. Tomorrow the ka-ka hits the fan with rain and temps down to 55F.

Received confirmation from my hotel this morning, and I was blown away by the price, i.e. $20-a-night less than last year! That’s a $3,600 saving over the six months. Needless to say, I’m delighted.

Went shopping for white shoes with velcro straps yesterday — what a depressing situation that is! First, the men’s section is buried in ‘acres’ of women’s, girls, and toddler’s  fashions, and features a depressing range of greys and blacks on one hand, and fluorescent oranges and yellows on the other. Moreover, the good folks who make these things in Taiwan have a mistaken impression the westerners are all 300 lbs. or seven feet tall — medium is large, and small is medium, etc.

Nevertheless, I did find two pairs that fit — one 8, and the other 9.

More next time.

Another reasonable day for this time of year

The weather remains tolerable with temps around the 70 mark. Just a little too cool for sitting in the gazebo, but tomorrow is forecast at about 74F. Then, the ka-ka hits the fan with temps in the low 50s for the weekend.

Went to my favourite Thai restaurant for lunch, and my favourite waiter , Breeze (actual name) was there to greet me. Apparently, his mother liked the name Breeze (after the detergent) before she learned to speak English, and so she named her son after it, BTW, she’s 5′ – 6″. and he’s over 6′. Delightful people, and great food.

I spoke to the hotel this morning. They had said  they would confirm  our former arrangements (price, etc.) by email, but fortunately they didn’t. I say ‘fortunately’ because we came to an agreement at $200 per month less than we originally agreed. Bonus! 🙂

It is surprising how quickly the days are passing, and so it will soon be time to do the trn arond.

More next time.
